Tomorrow Is Random Acts of Kindness Day: Small Actions, Lasting Impact
Tomorrow, February 17th, we celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day, a reminder that even the simplest gesture can have a powerful impact.
Kindness is often described as something small. A quick favour. A polite smile. A short message. But in reality, kindness builds the foundation of strong, inclusive communities. It creates connection, restores confidence and reminds people that they matter.
Random Acts of Kindness Day is part of a global movement encouraging people to choose compassion, empathy and generosity in everyday life. You can learn more about the movement here:

Why Kindness Matters in Inclusive Communities
For people with disability, community connection is more than a nice extra. It is protective. It strengthens wellbeing. It builds belonging and increases safety.
Research and lived experience tell us that social isolation can increase vulnerability. When people are connected, when others notice if they are not at a regular group, when friendships are built through shared interests, there is greater safety and stronger advocacy.
Kindness is not about charity.
It is about respect.
It is about recognising the value and rights of every person.
Sometimes kindness looks like:
• Checking in on someone who has been quiet
• Asking how a space can be made more accessible
• Offering information in Easy Read
• Listening to lived experience
• Speaking up when something is not fair
These are not dramatic actions. But they are powerful.
Building Kindness Into Community
At Advocacy WA, we see every day how small acts create ripple effects.
Through D Connect, people come together to build peer networks, create friendships and strengthen their confidence. We have seen craft groups make cards for local aged care residents who may not receive birthday messages. We have seen community mentors reach out when someone misses a session. We have seen businesses take feedback and improve access for customers and staff.
These are acts of kindness that build inclusion.
And inclusion does not happen by accident. It grows when people choose it.
Kindness Is Action
Random Acts of Kindness Day is an invitation to act.
You might:
• Send a message to someone you have not heard from in a while
• Support a local inclusive business
• Learn something new about accessibility
• Invite someone into a conversation
• Offer practical support without being asked
When communities choose kindness, they create spaces where people feel safe to speak up, to participate and to belong.
If we want the South West to be the most inclusive and accessible region in Australia, kindness must be part of our daily practice.
Tomorrow is a reminder that we all have the power to create change, one action at a time.
