Living Stories: Creating a Disability Mural Together

What is it like being a young person with disability in the South West?

Our Living Stories Disability Mural Project is creating an opportunity for young people with disability to answer that question through stories, ideas, colour, and community art.

Young people aged 15 to 25 are invited to take part in a guided mural workshop with a local artist. Together, participants will explore ideas for a lasting public artwork that shares their experiences of living, connecting, and participating in the South West.

No art experience is required.

The workshop is not about being the best artist in the room. It is about sharing ideas and helping create something meaningful. Participants may contribute through drawing, writing, conversation, symbols, colours, photographs, or other forms of communication.

There are two workshop dates available, but participants only need to attend one. Ideas and stories shared during both sessions will become part of the overall design process.

Food and snacks will be provided, and participants will be supported throughout the workshop.

Community art can make experiences visible. It can create conversation, challenge assumptions, celebrate identity, and help people see their community from a different perspective.

Most importantly, this mural will be shaped by the people whose stories it represents.

The finished artwork will create a lasting reminder that young people with disability are an important part of the South West. Their voices, creativity, leadership, and experiences belong in our shared public spaces.

Come along, share your story, and help create an artwork that will remain in the community for years to come.
