Your Rights, Your Supports, Your Service
In a recent co-design session, a participant shared a story that deeply shaped our team’s approach to this project.
She spoke of growing up in the 1970s, when institutionalisation was still common. Her family was told to “try again” to place her in an institution and have another child without disability.
That conversation reminded us why this work is essential. For many older Australians with disability, past trauma and systemic discrimination remain part of their everyday experience. Today’s service delivery must not only recognise this history but respond with sensitivity, respect, and a genuine commitment to change.
That is the heart behind Your Rights, Your Supports, Your Service. This project is delivered by Advocacy WA and funded by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
These free, practical workshops are designed to support both NDIS providers and people with disability, along with their support networks, to understand, uphold, and exercise rights in the delivery and receipt of services.
Two Workshop Streams Tailored for Impact
We know that meaningful change looks different depending on your role. That’s why we’re running two distinct but complementary workshops.
Provider Workshop
Facilitated by Sarah Pepper, Quality and Safeguards Manager at Enable WA.
Sarah brings over 20 years of experience in the disability sector. She has worked as a support worker, support coordinator, Positive Behaviour Support practitioner, and NDIS auditor. She offers a wealth of professional knowledge and lived experience. Sarah is passionate about making practice frameworks meaningful and practical.
Her sessions go far beyond policy. She helps providers understand how rights-based practice can genuinely improve the lives of the people they support. This is not about ticking boxes. It is about embedding quality, dignity, and respect into everyday service delivery.
Participant and Support Network Workshop
Facilitated by Larissa Beeby, Community Project Manager at Advocacy WA.
Larissa joined our team this year after serving on our Board of Directors. With a strong background in community leadership and advocacy, she brings warmth, clarity, and a deep commitment to inclusion.
Her sessions are designed for people with disability and those who support them, including family, friends, and workers. These workshops do not just deliver education. They offer practical tools, real-world scenarios, and powerful encouragement:
It’s always okay to speak up when something isn’t right.
